Every year, Love’s has the opportunity to feature the faces of children impacted by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® in our locations, and this year is no different. However, this year you will get to know a lot about one little girl, in particular. We’re excited to share with you the story of Chloe Davison, and her dad Jason.

Chloe and her dad are featured faces on many of the promotional materials in Love’s locations for 2018. Jason is a professional driver, like so many of the key Customers that give to this campaign every year. He never expected that one day this campaign would make a difference in the life of his daughter. Chloe, a charismatic 11-year-old who lives in Oregon, has always known her dad as a professional driver.

“He’s on the road and gone a lot but the time he’s home, he cherishes every moment,” she said.

Chloe makes the most out of her time with her dad and her family back home. She likes to dance, play with her friends and spend as much time as possible with her dog, Poppy.

“I’m a pretty happy person because I don’t really have any worries,” said Chloe.

A few years ago, however, her family had plenty of reason to worry. When Chloe was just five years old, her mother, Cynthia, started noticing signs that something wasn’t right. Chloe was lethargic, her joints ached, her lymph nodes started to swell and she stopped eating.

“Instead of growing up, gaining weight and getting taller, she was doing everything backwards,” said Cynthia.

Chloe’s family sought answers from several doctors before finally finding Dr. Ellen Plummer at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon. Dr. Plummer examined Chloe’s bone marrow and found cancer cells.

Cynthia remembers the day she received the phone call confirming the diagnosis: leukemia.

“Chloe was in the living room, playing. I remember I went in my room and closed the door. I put my pillow around my mouth and just screamed,” she said.

The news was also hard on Jason, who is on the road driving east coast to west coast routes throughout the year.

“He was heartbroken,” Cynthia said, “He stopped what he was doing and came home for the first couple of weeks of her treatment.”

Throughout the treatment process, Cynthia said the staff at Asante were her rocks. They went out of their way to treat Chloe like a princess during her treatment. And even though Asante was only 30 miles from Davison’s home, the staff treated them like long lost friends each time they walked through the door.

“Every time we went there, (Chloe’s) famous line was ‘I’m baaaack!’,” Cynthia said, “The nurses and doctors would get pretty excited.”

Chloe’s family saw a personal connection with funds from CMN, beyond the overarching support of Asante. Funding from the Children’s Miracle Network directly helped Chloe with her treatment by paying for a port for Chloe to receive oncology treatments as well as a vein finder machine. The vein finder made her visit to the hospital a lot less stressful.

“The first time I got poked, they didn’t have the vein finder and they had to poke me four times. I remember the next time I came in, they had it,” Chloe said, “and that already shows how much CMN Hospitals can do in a week.”

Now that Chloe has recovered and is living a normal life, she wants to grow up to be a pediatric oncologist, just like Dr. Plummer.

“I want to be able to help kids that are going through what I went through and be able to tell them, hey I went through the same thing, it’s going to be all right.”

August 26-September 30, 2018, when Love’s employees around the country start asking Customers to donate to CMN, they are asking to support countless kids and families around the country, just like Chloe. When professional drivers choose to donate to CMN, they are supporting fellow drivers like Jason who know what it’s like to be on the road and have a sick kid at home.

Our Customers will be seeing Chloe and Jason a lot throughout the campaign on in-store materials and on social media.
