Syracuse,
NY – February 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / One of the longest-lasting
and most successful partnerships in music returns to the Great
New York State Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 1 when the Oak Ridge Boys make
their 8th visit to the fairgrounds for a 2:00 p.m. show on the second Senior
Day, Acting Director Troy Waffner announced Monday.
In an industry where players
come and go, the Oak Ridge Boys are the model of stability. William Lee
Golden joined 50 years ago, with Duane Allen, Richard Sterban, and Joe
Bonsall all in place by 1973. That lineup produced an astounding 17 number
one country hits and 20 more songs in the country top 40. That list includes
1981’s crossover smash, “Elvira,” which sold more than 2 million copies
worldwide and introduced the quartet to a worldwide pop audience.

The Boys have appeared seven
times previously at the Fair, most recently in 2009. Their first appearance
came on the Grandstand in 1978, the year the big stage opened, with Kenny
Rogers and Dottie West.
“The Oak Ridge Boys have
been tweeting at us for a while now to invite them back. Last year’s tweet
was in all-caps. It said, ‘WE MISS YOU!’ Well, we missed them, too, and
we’re thrilled to have them on the Chevy Court stage once again. They’ll
put on a terrific show full of familiar songs, just as they have for half
a century,” said Waffner.
“Our history with The Great
New York State Fair goes back over many years and we are honored to be
coming back again. When we tweeted ‘WE MISS YOU’ we meant it,” said Joe
Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys. “Being invited back to this great American
event is an honor! We still have a ton of great friends in New York State
and we can’t wait to sing to them. Folks can tweet their set list request
to us @oakridgeboys. This show will be a highlight of our fair season.
See you there!”
Previously, the Fair announced
that Everclear will play at 2:00 p.m. on opening day, August 27. More announcements
for the 21 remaining Chevy Court performance slots are coming soon.
Concerts on Chevy
Court are sponsored by Chevrolet.
