Syracuse, NY – February 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / The promotional effort that produced an all-time record crowd at the 2014 Great New York State Fair will be back in 2015, and will be joined by two new efforts to encourage more people to enjoy the Fair, Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner announced.

The brand new Dollar Day on Labor Day ended the most successful fair in years on the highest possible note. An all-time record crowd of 122,870 people took advantage of $1 admission and $1 rides on the all-new Wade Shows Midway, one of more than two dozen new attractions and events last year. The day ended with a special show on Chevy Court and fireworks at closing time. Dollar Day will return in 2015.

The Wade Shows Midway on-site gross sales also set a single day record at the 2014 Great New York State Fair, generating $223,360 on Labor Day 2014, compared to $96,384 on Labor Day the previous year, a 132 percent increase.

For 2015, the Fair and its Midway partner will roll out two new promotions aimed at adding value to the Fair experience:

  • Three Dollar Thursdays will allow people to attend the Fair on August 27 and September 3 for $3 per person. Children 12 and under are free every day of the Fair.
  • The new Wade Shows Wednesday will allow people to ride 10 rides for $10, using a special wristband.
The Wade Shows Midway debuted in 2014 to strongly positive fairgoer feedback as the Fair introduced a new Midway company for the first time in nearly 70 years. Not only did people enjoy the new Midway, but it also produced greatly increased revenues for the Fair.

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy one of the nation’s greatest state fairs. People told us they loved having an incentive to come back to the Fair on Dollar Day. Three Dollar Thursday and Wade Shows Wednesday will encourage more people to circle those days on their calendars,” said Waffner.

“The Great New York State Fair and Wade Shows are a powerful team. Together, we are committed to bringing fairgoers a safe, memorable, and affordable experience with these new promotional opportunities,” said Frank Zaitshik, owner of Wade Shows.

Waffner said that the Fair wanted to get the news out about these special promotions before the start of advance sale ticket season, which typically begins in July. “If someone knows they are coming specifically on Labor Day or on those two Thursdays, we want them to get the full benefit of the discount. The $6 advance sale ticket remains the best bargain for those who want the option of a discount on any day,” he said.

The Fair cannot provide refunds to those who purchase tickets at the higher advance sale price and use them on a discounted-admission day.

To date, the Fair has announced a major Grandstand concert in Eric Church’s opening night show, and two shows on Chevy Court, featuring Everclear and the Oak Ridge Boys. In addition, the Fair recently said that the popular Sea Lion Splash show would return after a year’s absence. Many other new events and activities are in the planning stages, with announcements coming soon.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 27 – September 7, 2015. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.
