for a treat if they get to Chevy
Court at the Great New York State
Fair early for her free nighttime show on Thursday, September 3. Olivia
Somerlyn and Who Is Fancy, who are opening for Trainor on her M-Train Tour,
will share the stage at 2 p.m. that day, State Fair Acting Director Troy
Waffner announced Tuesday (July 21).
2014 was a good year for
emerging artist Olivia Somerlyn. Her song with co-writer and producer Nick
Jonas, “Parachute,” hit #1 on Billboard’s dance club chart, and she was
a finalist in iHeartRadio’s Rising Star program. She has toured with the
Jonas Brothers, Big Time Rush, Lindsey Stirling, and others.
Who Is Fancy is actually
a singer/songwriter named Jake Hagood, but until a few months ago, he kept
his name a secret. Hagood said he wanted people to embrace his debut single,
“Goodbye,” before they learned about him. “Goodbye” broke into the top
30 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart at about the same time he revealed his
true identity with a performance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
“We know there will be fans
of Meghan Trainor who will be camping out in Chevy Court as soon as the
gates open. Having her opening acts perform the early show is a treat for
those dedicated fans and a way for everyone else to get to know two up-and-coming
artists. It’s a perfect final piece to a Chevy Court lineup that’s as good
as we’ve ever had,” said Waffner.
The Fair also announced the
return of the Syracuse JAMS Funkfest to the Chevy Court stage from 10 a.m.
– 2 p.m. on Labor Day, September 7. At least three bands—Soul Smooth Band,
UAD and the Soft Spoken Band—will perform. Syracuse JAMS is a collective
of local soul, R&B, funk, and blues bands.
“The Syracuse JAMS show really
set the tone for a terrific day last year, with great music greeting fairgoers
as they walked onto the grounds. We’re very happy to provide a platform
for these fantastic artists and I urge everyone visiting on Labor Day to
come early enough to see these excellent groups,” said Waffner.
The Fair has previously announced
several shows for its 2015 series of free concerts at Chevy Court, a lineup
that’s garnering attention as perhaps the best and most diverse ever. Shows

The New
York State Fair, operated by the New
York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August
27 – September 7, 2015. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its theme, “Summer’s
Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing
top-quality entertainment.
In addition to the annual
New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events
throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious
horse and livestock shows.
