Syracuse,
NY – April 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Swing revival band Big
Bad Voodoo Daddy will open the Chevy
Court concert series when the California band breaks out its zoot suits
and updated big band music at 2 p.m. on August 25, opening day of the Great
New York State Fair, Acting Director Troy Waffner announced Friday
(April 8).
The core of the band, including
bandleader Scotty Morris, remains together, nearly a quarter century after
its formation. The band performs original and classic songs in the hard-swinging
Rat Pack style of the 40s and 50s. Originals such as “You and Me and the
Bottle Makes Three Tonight (Baby)” mix perfectly with covers such as “Minnie
the Moocher.”
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy caught
fire after appearing in the film, “Swingers.” Since then, they and their
music have been everywhere from “Dancing with the Stars” to an episode
of “Scooby Doo” to a performance at halftime of the Super Bowl.
“These guys throw a party
on-stage and I can’t think of a better way to start the state’s largest
celebration. Our Chevy Court lineup will be the best and most diverse in
our history, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will get the Fair going in style,”
said Waffner.
Thursday, August 25 is also
the first of two Three Dollar Thursdays, in which admission at the gate
is just $3.
