A Look at the Year Ahead,
by Timothy Schneider,

Los
Angeles, CA – December 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / As the results of the
general election make clear, the coming year promises to be one of transition
and change. In our Convention Trends 2017 supplement,
which
begins on page 21, we take a look at what lies ahead for planners of
large-scale meetings and events. By delving deeper into topics ranging
from event security to creating a customized group experience, the supplement
will help your association navigate the road ahead.
That’s
one of our objectives with every issue of Association
News. This month, our regular Meeting Trends feature (page
70) reports on the ways cultural venues are helping groups get creative
by curating a range of artistic programs and unique experiences. Our Association
Doctor column (page
16), which examines a different cutting- edge association management
topic each month, provides suggestions on engaging the millennial generation
as association members. The column is written by Steven Hacker, former
president of the International Association of Exhibits and Events, whose
unrivaled experience in association management makes him a true thought
leader on what it takes for your association to prosper in changing times.
As
we look ahead to the coming year, we’ve already planned extensive coverage
of the key trends that will affect association executives and association
meeting planners. This content, along with our destination stories, news
coverage and columns written by industry experts, will keep you abreast
of the things you need to know.
Here’s
a sampling of what’s store: In February, we will report on executive retreats
that lend themselves to productivity and inspiration while also looking
at everything you need to include on your event-security checklist. The
March issue will explore how planners and venues are incorporating health
and wellness into meetings and, in April, we will examine how planners
are making meetings more family friendly.
In
May, we go overseas to bring you the latest on international meeting sites.
In June, we’ll check in with an update on the state of trade shows as well
as emerging destinations that are appealing to association groups. In the
July issue, our annual supplement prepared in conjunction with DMAI will
explore the major trends in destination marketing and their impact on the
meetings and events industry. The August issue will highlight gaming destinations
that are broadening their appeal by pursuing association meetings and conventions.
September will bring coverage of waterfront meetings and in October, we
will examine the latest trends and ways to deal with the escalating costs
of food and beverage at meetings.
As
the meetings industry continues to evolve, we remain committed to providing
information that will help your association be more successful. We take
pride in serving as a trusted source of information for associations, whether
it’s in the pages of Association
News or at our live events such as Meetings
Quest, which will be held March 14–15 at the Borgata Casino, Hotel
& Spa in Atlantic City.
On
behalf of everyone who works to bring you Association News and Meetings
Quest, we would like to thank you for your support. Best wishes for a happy
holiday season and a successful year ahead!
