Los
Angeles, CA – December 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Boingo
Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the leading Wi-Fi and DAS provider that serves
consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced fast, free
Wi-Fi for travelers and new blazing-fast speeds of up to 20 Mbps for power
users and subscribers.
The
new faster speeds are part of Boingo’s innovative S.M.A.R.T. network approach,
which stands for Secure, Multiplatform, Analytics-Driven, Responsive and
Tiered. The “Tiered” portion of a SMART Network offers multiple speed options,
depending on the traveler’s needs. All passengers can enjoy fast Wi-Fi
access at no charge. Power users who need their airport Wi-Fi to function
like an extension of their home or office environment can choose from several
paid options, including speeds of 20Mbps – bursting to 50Mbps. All Boingo
subscribers, including those enrolled in the American Express Preferred
Plan, will automatically receive the highest tier of speed when they log
in.

“Our SMART
networks represent a revolutionary new approach to airport wireless networks.
They provide a complete end-to-end solution to airports and their customers,
including high-speed, free Wi-Fi for all, and incredibly fast Wi-Fi for
power users. SMART networks are built to scale for carrier offload and
the data onslaught from the hottest new apps, videos and gaming, and feature
seamless connectivity via Passpoint,” said Boingo President Nick Hulse.
“Our managed, flexible networks ensure an outstanding connection, every
time, no matter what speed option customers choose or what services airports
layer on. We’re looking forward to rolling SMART out with additional partner
airports soon.”
“Now,
more than ever, connectivity is critical for travelers. With the launch
of SMART, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey now offers passengers
one of the best Wi-Fi networks in the world, including high-quality, free
Wi-Fi that our passengers crave,” said Thomas Bosco, Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey Director of Aviation. “We are committed to providing
an outstanding travel and technology experience to our mobile-savvy guests,
and Boingo is helping us fulfill that promise with better, faster, more
secure wireless service for all.”
SMART
Networks are carrier Wi-Fi offload-ready, which enables participating wireless
carriers the ability to offload traffic from their licensed spectrum to
Boingo’s carrier-grade Wi-Fi networks, while providing their users instant
connectivity without the need for software or passwords. Sprint is already
taking advantage of Boingo’s upgraded SMART Networks, with more than 16
million handsets enabled and more than 25 million expected to be enabled
by year-end.
Boingo
is the world’s leading airport Wi-Fi provider, managing services in nearly
60 airports, representing more than 50% of North America’s top 50 airports
and more than 30% of the world’s top 30 airports.
