2016 / Newsmaker Alert / ‘Breakin the Fever’ won the 32nd renewal
of the $50,000 George W. Barker Stakes at Finger
Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) on Monday (June 6). The 4-year-old
gelding owned and trained by Debra Breed took the six furlong dash for
New York-breds 3-years-old and upward in a final time of 1:10.81.
The 2015 FLGR Horse of the
Year set the early pace with pressure from Crackerjack Jones and Baime.
He outlasted his rivals to win the ninth race by a margin of three-quarters
of a length.
The bay gelding achieved
the narrow victory under jockey Nazario Alvarado. Alvarado earned his fourth
career FLGR stakes triumph and first since 2012.
‘Breakin the Fever’ registered
his eleventh victory in his 20th career start and improved his lifetime
earnings to a sum of $309,441. He was the public choice in the wagering
and paid $4.60, $2.90 and $2.50. Crackerjack Jones finished second and
returned $3.50 and $2.80. Baime held the third position and paid $3.20.
FLGR will continue to offer
live thoroughbred action five days a week with dark days of Fridays and
Sundays. Post time for most days is set at 1:10 p.m. with the exception
of rare Friday cards which will start at 12:35 p.m.
