Farmington, NY – November
2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Numerous thoroughbreds that were recently
retired from competition at Finger
Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) participated in the Retired
Racehorse Project (RRP) in Lexington, Kentucky. The event was sponsored
by Thoroughbred Charities of America
and took place from October 23-25.
Desert TnT earned the highest
placing of any FLGR horse in the Show Jumper division. The 8-year-old gelding
owned by Hess Stables completed the program in fifth out of a field of
43 horses from around the world. He achieved the high placing under the
guidance of training partner Skye-Anna Nye-Smith.
Kelly Neale received the
award for the Ranch Horse division’s Top Amateur. She earned the honor
with former FLGR competitor Cup of Cee. Neale is also a veterinarian with
a practice in Stanley, NY.
Roxanne Mitz took the award
for second highest amateur in both the barrels and competitive trails divisions
with Fifty Sense. Mitz is employed in the racing office at FLGR and also
volunteers to help local retired racehorses.
Fifty Sense was a local favorite
during his racing career performing at an elite level on a regular basis.
He executed the same type of consistency at the international contest.
“The event was very well
organized and the Finger Lakes horses did fantastic,” said FLTAP Program
Manager Julie Smith. “I’m very proud of all of them.”
The “RRP 2015 Thoroughbred
Makeover” competition attracted approximately two hundred Thoroughbreds
from around the globe that have recently been trained in ten different
riding skills. The event from October 23-25 was a celebration of the talent
and trainability of the off-track Thoroughbred.

About FLTAP
The Finger
Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program (FLTAP) took the shape of a formal
and very credible Thoroughbred adoption program. FLTAP obtained 501(c)3
certification in May of 2006, paving the way for tax deductible donations
which include not only the donated Thoroughbreds, but supplies, equipment,
services, and (still very much needed) cash. Since the initial inception
in early 2005, hundreds of thoroughbreds have found new homes and new careers
through FLTAP.
