Cinematize won the tenth race by a margin of one and one quarter lengths and improved her lifetime earnings to a sum of $231,395. She finished the six furlong distance in a time of 1:12.90 for owner and trainer M. Anthony Ferraro.

Ferraro completed a bookend double for the closing day card. He also won the first race with Smart Thinking.

Top Performers

Breakin the Fever won the honor of FLGR “Horse of the Year” for the second consecutive season. The 4-year-old New York-bred owned and trained by Debra Breed has dominated the sprinter division at his home track with 12 victories in 14 career FLGR starts. 

The fast gelding won three stakes this year including two at FLGR under jockey Nazario Alvarado. He displayed his class at Belmont Park when he upset Weekend Hideaway in the $150,000 Hudson Handicap on October 22.

Fingerpainter was the top 3-year-old filly at FLGR with multiple stakes victories this season. The Timothy Murphy-trainee won both the $50,000 Niagara Stakes on June 20 and the $50,000 Arctic Queen Stakes on October 3. She was guided to the victories by jockey Gabriel Suarez. 

John Davila, Jr. claimed the 2016 FLGR jockey title with a total of 164 triumphs. He earned the top ranking for the first time since 2011. He now holds a record total of thirteen career FLGR rider titles.

Jeremiah Englehart secured his first ever FLGR trainer title ending a consecutive streak performed by his father Chris Englehart. This marked the first time since 2003 that someone other than Chris Englehart was the top ranked FLGR trainer. Jeremiah finished the 2016 season with 129 triumphs.

Jeremiah Englehart also reached a career milestone in 2016. He earned his 1000th win on November 2 with West Sedona.

2016 Highlights

Michael Davila and David Lopez also surpassed the 1,000th career win mark at FLGR this season. Davila accomplished the milestone on July 18 with Chickaletta and Lopez reached the significant mark on August 17 aboard Baime.
 
Shesastonecoldfox and Rudy Rincon were officially inducted into the FLGR Hall of Fame in November. 

Shesastonecoldfox established herself as the best New York- bred 2-year-old filly in 2001. She scored a convincing five length victory in the $65,350 Lady Fingers Stakes and defeated male rivals in the $137,900 New York Breeders’ Futurity.

The $216,409 earner owned by Langpap Stables was voted champion New York-bred 2-year-old filly and her accomplishments made her eligible to compete against the best young thoroughbreds in the world in the $1 Mil Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Rudy Rincon won the first ever FLGR jockey title in 1962. Rincon remained one of the top FLGR jockeys during the first two decades, earning a total of four jockey titles during that span. After the successful first Finger Lakes season, he also claimed top jockey honors in 1973, 1974, and 1978.

Rincon completed his extensive prosperous career in 1999 with a total of 2,975 lifetime victories.

Finger Lakes will remain in operation during the winter months for simulcast wagering with up to seven tracks per day. Live thoroughbred action will resume in the spring with the start of the 2017 meet.
