Cape Canaveral, FL – October 2017 / Newsmaker Alert / Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and its operator, Delaware North, together presented a check of $30,000 to Sharing Center of Central Brevard, North Brevard Charities Sharing Center and the South Brevard Sharing Center Wednesday (October 25) as part of its annual Salute to Brevard. The monetary donation is meant to support Brevard neighbors as they recover from Hurricane Irma.

“We bring back Salute to Brevard year after year, because our neighbors mean everything to us,” said Therrin Protze, chief operating officer, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. “And now, more than ever we need to rally around our friends, colleagues, and families to support those that were impacted by Hurricane Irma. It gives Delaware North and Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex great pleasure to be able to support Brevard County Sharing Centers as they work to ensure everyone in our community has the supplies, and the support, they need.”

Due to the impact Brevard County endured from Hurricane Irma, Salute to Brevard has been extended from one week to two to provide members of the local community more opportunity to donate supplies needed as their impacted neighbors re-build. As part of the initiative, the visitor complex will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items, baby formula and food, and hygiene products to donate to the Brevard County Sharing Centers. The visitor complex will also collect used plastic grocery bags, to be “upcycled” into lightweight, waterproof mats for homeless veterans.*

Additionally, Salute to Brevard offers admissions savings to Brevard residents through November 5. Brevard-resident-ticket-pricing for these two weeks is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-11 (plus tax).**

“After Irma, Brevard County Sharing Centers distributed about 35,000 pounds of food to 762 persons in 10 days, an amount that would normally be given out in a month’s time,” said David Brubaker, president and chief executive officer, Sharing Center of Central Brevard. “We also provided health and hygiene kits to 407 people, provided more than 2,000 meals, and distributed seven pallets of bottled water – that’s nearly 50,000 bottles of water – in that amount of time. This is a critical time for Brevard County to come together to support our neighbors in need.”

Proof of Brevard County residency in the form of a driver’s license or utility bill is required to receive the special visitor complex admission rate. Tickets must be purchased at the visitor complex on the date of entry, and only the purchaser needs to be a Brevard County resident.

Admission includes a full day or more of fun, inspiration and educational activities, including Heroes & Legends, featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®, presented by Boeing, the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour featuring the Apollo/Saturn V Center with an actual Saturn V moon rocket, Space Shuttle Atlantis®, Shuttle Launch Experience®, IMAX® A Beautiful Planet 3D and Journey To Space 3D films, Astronaut Encounter, Journey To Mars: Explorers Wanted, Science on a Sphere®, Rocket Garden, and many other exhibits.
