Delaware North to Continue to Manage and
Steward Sequoia National Park Visitor Services

Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, CA – June 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Delaware North has been selected to be awarded a new 10-year concessions contract by the National Park Service for Sequoia National Park’s lodging, food and beverage, retail and conference services.

Visitors to Sequoia National Park will continue to experience Delaware North’s hospitality and stewardship of the 102-room Wuksachi Lodge and its Peaks Restaurant in Wuksachi Village as well as food and beverage, retail and other services at Lodgepole Village and the seasonal Bearpaw High Sierra Camp.

Delaware North holds a current concession contract at Sequoia National Park and has since 1998. In addition to Wuksachi Lodge, which it constructed under the terms of its current contract, Delaware North operates Sequoia National Park’s Bearpaw High Sierra Camp and the Lodgepole Market Center.

Planned capital improvements at Wuksachi Village include construction of a deck off of the Wuksachi Lodge main building. All improvements will follow Delaware North’s GreenPath™ environmental stewardship program.

“We thank the National Park Service for the opportunity to continue serving guests at Sequoia because we are proud of our stewardship and feel a strong connection with this special place,” said Lance Wellwood, regional general manager for Delaware North’s west coast parks locations.

“We are also excited to be able to follow through with our capital improvement plans to enhance the visitor experience. These kinds of projects take years of planning to ensure all visitor, environmental and stakeholder considerations have been accounted for and are a responsibility that we all take to heart at Delaware North,” Wellwood said.

Delaware North has also operated visitor services at neighboring Kings Canyon National Park since 2013, providing a seamless experience for visitors exploring both Sequoia and Kings Canyon.

In Kings Canyon, Delaware North is beginning construction of a new restaurant in Grant Grove this summer. The $6.6 million Grant Grove Restaurant replacement, due to open in 2017, will see a new 8,000-square-foot LEED Gold certified structure built using sustainable materials and construction techniques. This follows an investment in major renovations to the John Muir Lodge and Grant Grove cabins last year as well as the Cedar Grove Lodge in Kings Canyon.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks span roughly 866,000 acres of the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range. They are home to two of the world’s largest (by volume) organisms on earth, the General Sherman and General Grant trees; the tallest peak in the lower 48 United States, Mount Whitney; and one of the deepest canyons in the country, Kings Canyon, at 8,200 feet.
