the Launch of an Atlas V Rocket
from
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on Oct. 29

Space Center Visitor Complex guests can experience the breathtaking
sights and sounds of the launch
of an Atlas V rocket as it lifts off on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Visitors
may enjoy a front row seat to view the launch from the Apollo/Saturn V
Center, the closest possible public viewing area, and from viewing areas
at the Visitor Complex. Launch viewing is included in daily admission.
The
rocket will blast off from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air
Force Station with the launch scheduled for 1:21 p.m. EST.
United
Launch Alliance (ULA) is launching the Atlas V rocket to carry GPS satellites
that serve and protect warfighters by providing navigational assistance
for U.S. military operations on land, at sea, and in the air. GPS IIF-8
is one of the next-generation GPS satellites, incorporating various improvements
to provide greater accuracy, increased signals and enhanced performance
for users. In addition to government needs, civilians around the world
use and depend on GPS capabilities on a daily basis, whether it be through
smart phones, computers, car GPS, or even for shopping and gaming.
Guests
are invited to view the launch from the main Visitor Complex or the Apollo/Saturn
V Center inside the gates of Kennedy Space Center. Buses from the Visitor
Complex will take guests to the Apollo/Saturn V Center beginning at 10
a.m. The last bus going to the Apollo/Saturn V Center for launch viewing
will depart at 11:45 a.m. or until capacity is reached.
Located
along the Banana River and only three miles from the launch pad, the Apollo/Saturn
V viewing area offers the closest public viewing opportunity in Brevard
County. This viewing area will feature live launch countdown commentary.
Space for launch viewing at the Apollo/Saturn V Center is limited and available
on a first come, first served basis. Launch viewing from select areas at
the Visitor Complex also will feature live mission control commentary.

5 p.m. on Oct. 29.
