Overland
Park, KS – July 2017 / Newsmaker Alert / Travel industry leader Global
Connections, Inc. (GCI), selected Red
Nose Day as its Monthly Fundraising event. Red Nose Day increases awareness
of kids who are in need around the world and raises money to help lift
those children out of poverty. The international annual Red Nose Day event
has raised over $1 billion globally in the last quarter century through
individual and corporate donations.
In
conjunction with Red Nose Day, GCI’s employee driven Committee of Awesomeness
(COA) organized Red Nose Day events in both the Overland Park, Kansas corporate
office and the Orlando, Florida sales office. Employees donned their red
noses and opened their wallets to raise nearly $1000 for the one-day event.

Many
years ago, Global Connections formed the Committee of Awesomeness to further
acts of kindness by staff members within the company. The corporate office
supports the COA which is a group of employee volunteers who organize monthly
events with charities in mind. The COA has been instrumental in collecting
thousands of dollars over the years for the greater Kansas City area as
well as for local communities where GCI has a presence.
“Giving
the Global Way,” says President and CEO Tom Lyons, “is all about giving
back to our community. Whether it’s sending care packages to the military
or making sure babies have diapers, our team is always coming up with creative
ways to raise funds and extend a helping hand. That’s why we call them
Awesome.”
The
Committee of Awesomeness also recently promoted a “Take Your Can to Work
Day” to support the Harvesters Food Network. GCI’s corporate office collected
non-perishable food items and funds that added up to 210 meals for those
in need.
Tom
Lyons said, “Our team knows that we can make a difference: one person,
one company, one can, or one dollar. Small efforts add up to big results.”
From
blood drives to charity runs to full-on fundraisers, Global Connections
and its employees take “doing good” seriously. Ongoing philanthropic activities
are championed in the corporate headquarters, satellite offices, at its
resorts and in the sales/distributorship centers.
Over
the past year, GCI philanthropic efforts have raised funds for numerous
organizations and impacted thousands of lives in Kansas, Florida, South
Carolina, Colorado, Louisiana, Utah, and around the United States through
donations of time, materials, and items.
