Adventures
on stage
Witness
a meeting of legendary frontier figures from the colonial period in Kentucky
at 1 p.m. on April 11 during “Spies of Fort Harrod-The Grand Council.”
Hosted by John Curry at Old Fort Harrod State Park, it puts Native Americans
such as Black Fish, Dragging Canoe and Nonhelema around the same fire as
James Harrod, Simon Girty, William Whitley, Benjamin Logan, Captain Pipe
and other pioneers for an airing of the grievances.
“This
is a very heated debate as you could imagine!” said David Coleman, park
manager. “While this council never really took place, we have a lot of
fun with the ‘what ifs’ if it did.”
Admission
to the Grand Council is included with your tour ticket for the fort, which
also includes admittance to the Mansion Museum. www.Parks.Ky.gov
See
the laugh-out-loud comedy, “George Washington Slept Here,” at the Ragged
Edge Community Theater on April 24, 25 and 26 and May 1, 2 and 3. A young
woman secretly acquires a dilapidated house in the country without her
husband’s knowledge – one that is believed to have served as George Washington’s
temporary home during the Revolutionary War. www.RaggedEdgeTheatre.org

it a musical weekend with a visit to Harrodsburg’s Southern Stampede at
the Burgin Barn on Fridays beginning at 7 p.m. It’s home-style family fun

About
Harrodsburg, KY
Sitting
amidst four National Register Historic Districts in the heart of Kentucky’s
famed Bluegrass region is Kentucky’s oldest city – one of the coolest places
in history. Harrodsburg is full of the unexpected. A full-scale replica
fort in Old Fort Harrod State Park commemorates the first permanent settlement
west of the Allegheny Mountains. Providing an up-close view of one of the
most unique ecosystems in the country, the geologically ancient Kentucky
River Palisades, is the authentic 115-passenger Dixie Belle sternwheeler.
Eight bourbon distilleries and a dozen wineries are a short drive away.
There are horseback riding trails, backroads and byways for bicycle enthusiasts,
and outdoor water sports from kayaking to skiing. Harrodsburg is home to
Beaumont Inn, the state’s oldest family-operated country inn, and Shaker
Village of Pleasant Hill – 3,000 acres of discovery at America’s largest
restored Shaker community. It is one of Best Choice Reviews’ “50 Best Small
Town Downtowns in America”; one of Smithsonian Magazine’s “20 Best
Small Towns to Visit in 2014” – the only Kentucky city on the list; and
one of BBC NEWS Magazine’s “Five hidden US Travel Destinations.”
Authentic, affordable, family-friendly – and full of the unexpected. This
is Harrodsburg.
