M3 and other industry leaders support launch of renovated Pummill Hall facility

Gainesville, GA & Springfield, MO – October 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / A feeling of excitement and renewal filled the air recently at the Missouri State University Department of Hospitality and Restaurant Administration, as the school unveiled its new digs in the completely renovated Pummill Hall located on campus in Springfield, Missouri. The school’s launch party on September 22 was sponsored by a number of hospitality industry leaders, including M3 Accounting + Analytics, John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts, O’Reilly Hospitality Management, Elliott Lodging and Drury Hotels, in support of this growing educational facility for up-and-coming hospitality professionals.

In early July, the Department of Hospitality and Restaurant Administration moved into its new space, occupying the third and fourth floors of the building, along with shared space on the second floor. The relocation offers increased visibility and new opportunities for the HRA program, with classroom space more than tripled in size and an expanded computer lab. The Pummill Hall facility also houses the popular student-managed restaurant and two culinary facilities for training the next generation of hospitality professionals.

“We feel that it’s critical for our company to be involved with great hospitality programs like the one here at Missouri State,” explained Scott Watson, executive vice president of sales and marketing for M3 Accounting + Analytics and Springfield resident. “Technology in the hospitality industry is moving rapidly. These students are tomorrow’s industry leaders. M3 University is intended to provide them a solid, real-world technology foundation that complements their talents and experience of living in a fast-paced world. We are excited to introduce our tools at an early stage in their development as hospitality professionals.”

In addition to top-notch new facilities, new curriculum for the program will create growing opportunities for HRA students. Dr. Albert Barreda, HRA professor specializing in hotel financial performance, will be implementing portions of the M3 University program later this semester. Barreda was recently selected as the 2014 Hospitality Financial Management Educator’s Award winner for the best research paper, “Who are the Bulls and Bears in Global Lodging Markets?,” which was sponsored by M3 Accounting + Analytics.

Pummill Hall, constructed in 1958, was in desperate need of repair, as leaks and water damage had caused significant issues in prior years. The $6.9 million dollar project that commenced in 2014 included a full remodel of all four floors, installation of a new elevator and student seating, along with addition of an energy-efficient curtain wall and LED lighting to reduce energy consumption.
