Maid of the Mist Makes History with Record Breaking Season
|
Attendance tops 1.4 million
|
Niagara Falls, NY – November 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / More than 1.4 million passengers from around the world boarded Maid of the Mist boats during the 2015 season, which concluded Nov. 8, a 17 percent increase from a year ago, when more than 1.1 million guests embarked on the journey to the base of Niagara Falls. In the past two years, ridership is up 30 percent.

The 130th season of one of North America’s oldest tourist attractions launched May 1, running into the second week of November for the first time in history.

“This continued upward trajectory in passenger traffic is further evidence that our guests want the original Niagara Falls boat tour experience,” said Christopher Glynn, president of Maid of the Mist Corp. “The Maid of the Mist is an adventure that can only be enjoyed in the United States.”

Maid of the Mist Makes History with Record Breaking Season

Glynn credited another strong season to a number of factors; expanded marketing initiatives, including enhanced online, print and billboard advertising, upgrades to Niagara Falls State park, where Maid of the Mist is based, and an influx of foreign guests, especially visitors from China and India.

“Maid of the Mist is a unique, global brand,” Glynn said. “Our associates work very hard to make sure that our guests have an memorable experience that only Maid of the Mist can provide.”

In the past decade, Maid of the Mist ridership has more than doubled. 634,000 guests were welcomed to the attraction in 2005, and the numbers have steadily increased in the ensuing ten years, to this year’s 1.4 million mark.

“What is impressive about this year’s double digit increase is the fact that due to the harsh winter, our season was delayed until the start of May, and the strong American Dollar meant attractions in Niagara Falls, Ontario, were in effect, on sale at 30 percent off, yet we still had a record-breaking year,” Glynn said.

The 2016 season is scheduled to begin next spring. For more information, visit www.maidofthemist.com.
