Weekend Walks at Sagamore Hill - August 2015
|
Oyster Bay, NY – August 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / The Theodore Roosevelt House at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Oyster Bay, Long Island, has reopened for public tours and the demand to visit the house has been incredible.Theodore Roosevelt House tours are available seven days per week through Labor Day weekend. Tours are limited to 14 people per tour, at a fee of $10 per person age 16 and over. Walk-in ticket sales for day-of tours begin daily at 9:00a.m. in the Visitor Center. Be aware that tours for the entire day have been selling out between 10:00 a.m. and Noon daily.

In addition to tours of the Theodore Roosevelt House, Sagamore Hill will offer guided weekend walks throughout the month of August.

Nature walks for August 2015, include:

Sunday, August 9, 1:00 p.m. – General Nature Walk

Sunday, August 23, 1:00 p.m. – TR & Conservation

The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation…”an iconic conservationist because of his conviction that wild places belonged to future generations as well as to the past. For the National Park Service’s 99th anniversary, learn more about the naturalist president’s crusade for wilderness.

Sunday, August 30, 1:00 p.m. – Nature Goes High-Tech

Bring your GPS and smart phone – Birds, bugs, trees: yes, there’s an app for that.Discover Geocaching, eBird, iNaturalist, Journey North, and other ways of connecting and contributing to Citizen Science projects.

Meet at the Visitor Center at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay. Wear appropriate clothing and be prepared for a moderately strenuous one-to-two hour walk. Nature walks are free.

Guided walks through Theodore Roosevelt’s Historic Oyster Bay will also be offered. Town walks for August 2015, include:

Saturday, August 8, 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 22, 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 29, 2:00 p.m.

Meet at the Long Island Railroad Station in Oyster Bay. Wear appropriate clothing and enjoy a one-hour stroll through town. Town walks are free.

The Sagamore Hill N.H.S. Visitor Center and Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard will be open seven days a week through Labor Day weekend. Visitor Center hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Old Orchard Museum is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Park grounds and trails will continue to be open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset.
