Syracuse,
NY – June 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Acting State Fair Director
Troy Waffner announced Friday (June 6) that the New
York State Fair has been named one of America’s top state fairs by
Yahoo! Travel. This news comes just a couple weeks after Hopper.com ranked
the Fair as the number one State Fair in the United States.
“The Fair has a lot of excitement
this year with new exhibits, great concerts featuring international superstars,
and a huge focus on New York agriculture,” said Waffner. “Momentum is clearly
on our side and as evidenced by these recent reports, people are taking
notice.”
In an independent survey
conducted at the conclusion of the 2013 Fair, fairgoers cited food as the
number one reason for visiting every year. Last year, the Fair introduced
Taste NY Wine and Cheese seminars and also a competition as a way to engage
fairgoers and educate them about the various wines and cheeses that are
made here in New York State. Like much of the food and drinks at the Fair,
they were a big hit and the report by Yahoo! Travel cites these seminars
as the “Best Thing To Stuff Your Face With” for 2014. These seminars will
return this year twice a day in the Horticulture Building, as will the
Taste NY Wine and Cheese Competition.
“In the coming weeks, we
will announce even more entertainment, new exhibits and showcase what’s
happening with agriculture at the Fair this year,” said Waffner. “Excitement
is building and we’re working very hard to put on a great show for nearly
a million people in 2014.”

The New
York State Fair, operated by the New
York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August
21 – September 1, 2014. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme,
“Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture
while providing top-quality entertainment. This year’s tagline – “New Attractions,
Old Favorites, Timeless Fun” – highlights the more than two dozen new events
and attractions and the expansion or enhancement of several Fairgoer favorites.
In addition to the annual
New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events
throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious
horse and livestock shows.
The home of the Great New
York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates
all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s
website.
