Syracuse,
NY – July 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Stress will make you sick,
says motivational speaker Yvonne Conte, but the cure can be found at the
annual Women’s Day Luncheon at the Great
New York State Fair. Conte will provide the keynote address for the
Wednesday, August 27 luncheon in a talk entitled “The Seven Habits of Supremely
Happy Women,” Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner announced Friday (July
25).
Registration for the Empire
Room luncheon, which starts at noon and features New York produce and products,
is underway. A registration form and the day’s program can be downloaded
from the Fair’s website, at www.nysfair.org/your-fair-visit/special-fair-days.
People may also call the Fair at 315-487-7711 x 1265 to register. The luncheon
cost of $20 includes admission to the Fair and parking.
Conte is a Utica native and
longtime Onondaga County resident who used her wits and tenacity to turn
a series of standup comedy jobs into a rewarding career using humor to
motivate others. She notes that a recent Gallup Poll found that nearly
8 in 10 women feel stressed out either some or all of the time. A sense
of humor can help. “Stress is not an event; it is our reaction based on
our perception of an event. We are free to alter our perceptions,” Conte
said.
Recently retired WCNY executive
Liz Ayers will emcee the luncheon.
Those who are registered
for the luncheon are also invited to a 10:30 a.m. coffee reception in the
Empire Theater, which includes a presentation by Ann Sedore PhD, RN, Chief
Nursing Officer at Crouse Hospital, on “Caring for the Care-giver.”
Food Network star Chef Anne
Burrell is another major highlight of Women’s Day. She will host a cooking
demonstration at Chevy Court at 2:00 p.m. Burrell is a Central New York
native and the host of several shows on the popular cable channel.
From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
under the Pavilion on Chevy Court, women’s advocacy groups will hold a
mini-fair to provide information. Crouse Hospital staff will also provide
free blood pressure checks.
And at 4:00 p.m. in the Empire
Theater, the Christopher and Banks clothing store at Great Northern Mall
in Clay will present a fashion show.
The New
York State Fair, operated by the New
York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August
21 – September 1, 2014. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme,
“Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture
while providing top-quality entertainment. This year’s tagline – “New Attractions,
Old Favorites, Timeless Fun” – highlights the more than two dozen new events
and attractions and the expansion or enhancement of several Fairgoer favorites.
In addition to the annual
New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events
throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious
horse and livestock shows.
The home of the Great New
York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates
all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s
website.
