Brewster, WA – August 2017 / Newsmaker Alert / Gamble Sands has been named the Top Public Golf Course in the state of Washington by Cascade Golfer Magazine, in its biennial Top-10 Rankings List. In a poll that included players, writers, photographers and other industry experts, Gamble Sands earned an impressive 40 first-place votes, equaling the rest of the top-five combined, with 2015 U.S. Open host Chambers Bay (17 first-place votes) a distant second.

Gamble Sands Named Top Public Golf Course in Washington“We are extremely pleased with the Cascade Golfer’s poll confirming what the ownership, course designer, management, and staff have known for a long time now: Gamble Sands is without a doubt the finest conditioned pure fescue golf course in the world,” said Orrin Vincent, OB Sports Chairman and Founder. “We have heard from so many players it’s a bucket list, once-in-a-lifetime experience to stay and play at Gamble Sands. But we disagree - our wonderful patrons are invited back as often as they please!”

“It’s a fantastic accolade for a great golf course,” said Gamble Sands Golf Course Superintendent Chip Caswell. “Opportunities for American golfers to play links golf, on fine fescue grasses, are rare - there are only a handful of links golf courses in the United States. We are passionate about providing great playing conditions, and as a staff we couldn’t be prouder of this honor.”

Designed by David McLay Kidd (Bandon Dunes, Tetherow) and opened in 2014, Gamble Sands plays 7,169 yards from the back tees, and to a par 72. Industry experts have remarked it’s more like playing Kidd’s earlier work at Bandon, with an emphasis on having fun. Its playability is illustrated throughout the golf course, especially on the reachable par-4 2nd hole with its breathtaking view of the Columbia River serving as a backdrop, or even on the split fairway of the par-4 14th. Cascade Golfer Editor Brian Beaky agreed, noting in the article, “Gamble Sands was a runaway winner with both our experts - nearly two-thirds of whom ranked Gamble at the top of their ‘best of’ lists - and readers, who overwhelmingly favored the links-style course nestled between the Columbia River and the rolling hills of north-central Washington.”

Gamble Sands is celebrating its new title with an all-new Stay & Play Package, combining with the new Inn at Gamble Sands, as well as the brand-new 50,000-square-foot Cascades Putting Green, for an unforgettable retreat on the bluffs above the Columbia River.
