Myrtle Beach Campground Finds New Ways to Satisfy Today’s
Campers Through Amenity Updates and Exclusive Events
|
Myrtle Beach, SC – June 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / During the summer, there are many opportunities to spend time outside. To encourage more activities in the great outdoors, the National Wildlife Federation is sponsoring a Great American Campout. From now through September 7, people of all ages are being encouraged to camp in parks, campgrounds and backyards across the country.

But what does camping really look like today?

The days of pitching a small tent and cooking over a campfire still has its appeal for some. But the camping experience has evolved for many. Tents have changed from multiple room tents with a private front porch to inflatable tents that can withstand up to 100 MPH winds. For campers who like the experience to be up and off the ground with more in-unit amenities, RV makers are building cruisers that expand in all directions and offer comfortable housing with TVs, large master baths, and even granite countertops.

Today’s campgrounds have also gone up a notch to appeal to consumers who want the luxury of a resort while they are housed in their own private, amenity-rich RVs. The most popular of today’s campgrounds are no longer rustic places that only offer spaces with hookups to water and electricity.

The largest campground on the East Coast and one of the largest in the United States, Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, S.C., is a great example of how campgrounds have been evolving to please today’s campers. A family enterprise, Ocean Lakes is set on 310 oceanfront acres and has nearly one mile of beachfront. It offers 3,447 sites — 893 of which are large and pull-through to accommodate larger RVs. On an average seasonal day, 25,000 - 30,000 guests pull in to enjoy Ocean Lakes’ countless amenities. It offers the expected: snack bars, an on-site grocery store, mini-golf and laundromats. But it also delivers so much more.

Ocean Lakes’ Sandy Harbor Family Fun Center is the hub of action for campers who aren’t on the beach all day. There’s an arcade and swimming pool, and a new water park is set to open in spring 2016. It will feature a 705-foot-long Adventure River with a speed lane called “the rapids” and a slide known as “the tube.” The 28,110 square feet of water surface in the park will also include a new themed kids splash zone, a semi-covered kiddie pool called the “Tad Pool,” and a four lane Drop Zone Mat Racer that will begin 35 feet up in the air. The lounge area will be expanded to more than 60,000 square feet of pool deck, complete with cabanas.

Ocean Lakes also holds events throughout the year for the exclusive entertainment of campers who are staying there. Some of the events include Beach ‘n Boogie, Bluegrass Weekend, and a Polar Bear Plunge.

Sometimes events are so popular that Ocean Lakes has to stretch them just so campers can get in. When there was no more space to accommodate campers who wanted to attend the popular Halloween Weekend, Ocean Lakes duplicated Halloween activities over two more weekends so that more people could enjoy the costume contests and entertainment.

Named the National “Park of the Year” (in the Mega Park category) by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) five times, Ocean Lakes continues to upgrade the camping experience in response to its guests’ requests.

Being customer-focused has paid off for Ocean Lakes. It’s the only campground or RV park in the Carolinas to receive an “A” grade six times from the annual GuestRated™ satisfaction survey of independent parks. Only 34 out of 4,000 campgrounds and RV parks received the “A” rating, based on more than 30,000 surveys completed by camping and RV enthusiasts throughout the United States.

Ocean Lakes is now in the Top 1% of the private campgrounds in North America because it holds a perfect 10/10*/10 rating from the Good Sam RV Travel Guide & Campground Directory for its overall operation, recreational offerings, services and appearance. Ocean Lakes has also received a “Certificate of Excellence” from TripAdvisor.

Ocean Lakes has evolved into the kind of campground that today’s consumers seek; it is hugely successful.
