Verona, NY – December 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / The Oneida Indian Nation is once again partnering with the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce to encourage its 4,500 employees to shop at local businesses this holiday season. Through its Shop Rome First program, the Rome Chamber of Commerce is offering Oneida Nation employees exclusive offers at more than 20 retailers as the Nation announces multi-million dollar holiday bonuses for eligible employees. As more Upstate businesses close or announce layoffs, the Oneida Nation continues to make a critical investment in its workforce and community.

For more than 20 years, the Oneida Nation has made it a priority to invest major resources into its workforce, resulting in a steady engine of job growth even during turbulent economic times. The business enterprises of the Oneida Indian Nation now support more than 6,000 jobs locally and 1,700 businesses in the state.

Oneida Nation Representative and Nation Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter said, “Our employees are our most valuable asset and our success is ultimately built on the women and men who make our enterprises work day in and day out, year after year. Our success also relies on the success of the community around us, which is why we continue to partner with local businesses and organizations like the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce and encourage our employees to reinvest locally.”

Rome Area Chamber of Commerce President William Guglielmo said, “Our region continues to benefit substantially from the Oneida Nation’s heritage and its development of Turning Stone Resort Casino. For more than two decades, the Nation’s revenue has been reinvested locally to grow and diversify a five-star property and the entire regional tourism economy. More than 600 of their 4,500 employees are Rome residents who spend their paychecks at local businesses and support the tax structure that keeps our city’s operation viable. Oneida Nation employees help to keep our community vibrant and local businesses thriving, which in turn, improves the quality of life and economic well-being of our region. We thank the Oneida Nation for encouraging its employees to once again shop local, with our Shop Rome First program.”

As the largest employer in Oneida and Madison counties and third largest employer in the 16-county Central New York region, the Oneida Nation has always been dedicated to investing in the economic development and stability of the area. Its business enterprises include Turning Stone Resort Casino, SavOn Convenience Stores, Four Directions Productions, Indian Country Today Media Network, and marinas.
