Expertise and Relationships, by Timothy Schneider, Publisher, SportsTravelLos Angeles, CA – November 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / This year, as we’ve planned the program for the 16th annual TEAMS Conference & Expo, we’ve been mindful of the ways in which TEAMS offers a unique, unmatched learning and networking experience, particularly when compared to all of the sports- and meetings-industry conferences that have sprung up since we launched TEAMS in 1998. As we have from the very beginning, we place the highest priority on providing a mix of educational content that’s not readily available elsewhere and networking in as wide a variety of formats as possible. We created a reverse trade show at the very first TEAMS Conference. This component, now called the “Mating Session,” combines fast-pitch presentations (since made popular by the television show “Shark Tank”) and the opportunity for on-site one-on-one meetings.

We were also one of the first travel-industry shows to offer a trade-show format that includes an overlay of pre-scheduled appointment sessions, which occur in our exhibitors’ booths. This hybridization of formats allows exhibitors to showcase their offerings in a way that produces real ROI for their marketing dollars.

TEAMS ‘14 in Las Vegas promises to be the biggest and best TEAMS Conference yet and includes the following programming highlights:

Eight pre-conference and concurrent sessions, including a research session hosted by the SnowSports Industries Association; a career seminar from SearchWide; a two-part Master Class in event bidding for host cities and event organizers featuring SportsTravel’s Event Doctor, Frank Supovitz; two sessions on the economic impact of sporting events organized by Destination Marketing Association International; and a session on technology’s impact on the sports-event industry.

Five general sessions, including a keynote from SportsTravel’s Leadership Coach Peter Burwash on “The Hallmarks of Visionary Leaders”; a session on “The Power of a Big Idea,” introduced by former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and featuring J.B. Bernstein, the visionary who inspired the hit film “Million Dollar Arm”; a keynote from the incredible Ann Meyers Drysdale titled “Creating Your Life in Sports”; and “What’s Next: Sporting Event Trendsetters and Market Makers,” a session featuring the leaders from Competitor Group, Tough Mudder and Red Bull.

Eight-and-a-half hours of TEAMS Expo, with a total of 40 pre-scheduled appointment slots and the new sportsTravel Lounge (Booth #325), where you can recharge and connect with many of the presenters from the general sessions .

The SportsTravel Awards Luncheon, which will include a keynote from Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. The presentation of the awards will be emceed by Matt Iseman, host of” American Ninja Warrior,” and will feature Terry Fator, who headlines as ‘‘The Voice of Entertainment” at the Mirage.

In a nutshell, the TEAMS Conference & Expo provides you a one-of-a-kind ticket to the front row of the sports-event industry. For complete details on TEAMS ‘14, please see the Conference Program, which begins on page 35.
