Tinley
Park, IL – April 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Summer in the Midwest is
poignantly sweet each year, particularly after months of arctic temperatures,
freezing wind and icy rains. Summer is time to enjoy the outdoors to the
fullest, and there’s no better place to do that than Tinley
Park, Illinois. This southwest suburb of Chicago celebrates summer
with a calendar crowded with free festivals, exhibits, markets, and music.
From
May through October, visitors can view and interact with the nationally-recognized
“Benches On The Avenue” exhibit.
This year’s theme of “Heroes and Villains” promises to provide the excellence
in creativity and craftsmanship that artists deliver each year. On Cruise
Nights, Tuesdays June through August, car lovers stroll Oak Park Avenue
to enjoy vehicles from nearly every decade of the last century and talk
with owners.
When
eating locally is a passion, the free Farmer’s Market, Saturdays June through
October, provides shoppers with an array of freshly-picked fruits and vegetables,
grass-fed meat, gourmet cheeses, nursery plants, just-baked bread, honey
and epicurean delights for all tastes.
For
many, the best part of summer is live music in the evening warmth. Tinley
Park brings seven
free concerts to Zabrocki Plaza this summer. This season features The
New Invaders, Strung Out, The MG3 Band, Firechicken, Ty Bates (a Nashville
country artist), Reckless, and Five Guys Named Moe representing British
invasion, country, rock and variety genres.
The
centerpiece of summer in Tinley Park is the free Caribbean
Block Party. At noon on Sunday, July 19th, the Village will kick off
its 17th annual Party, celebrating on nearly three blocks of closed-for-the-day
Oak Park Avenue. The Avenue bursts with live reggae, classic rock, and
variety music at multiple stages, free bounce houses and family activities,
a beanbag tournament, misting stations, every type of summer food and drink
imaginable, and more. Free trolley rides from free parking at Metra’s 80th
Avenue Station are provided.
Tinley
Park events are accessible from the Metra
Rock Island or easily by car via major national interstates. For more
