Historic Castlewood Country Club Celebrates 90 Glamorous Years
|
Pleasanton, CA – March 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Castlewood Country Club, a private club located in Pleasanton, Calif., recently announced a number of fun events throughout 2016 to honor the 90th anniversary of its classic Hill Course.

Festivities begin with the “90th Kickoff Celebration” on April 19 and continue monthly thereafter. The May event will be “Outstanding in the Fairway,” inspired by the nationally acclaimed farm-to-table adventure, “Outstanding in the Field.” Meals will be prepared from local sources and typically served in farms or gardens. Castlewood will set up a large trailing table down the first fairway.

The grand finale on October 14 will be a Great Gatsby/Monte Carlo-themed event with costumes, a big band and more. The 1920’s theme reflects Castlewood’s rich history, when the magnificent former residence of Phoebe Hearst served as the Castlewood clubhouse. Mrs. Hearst had lavishly entertained royalty and celebrities there. When the mansion became the clubhouse in 1925, many of the rooms were preserved in their original state, including sumptuous furnishings. It was destroyed by fire in 1969, and a new clubhouse stands in its place.

Community is important to the club, therefore some of the anniversary events will also be open to local residents.

In addition, memorabilia from the Hearst Foundation photos, furnishings, artifacts will be on display throughout the year, highlighting the prominence of the Hearst family in Castlewood history and in the development of the state of California. Phoebe Hearst was a major benefactor of the University of California, Berkeley, and its first women Regent. Her husband, George Hearst, served as one of California’s senators. Their son, William Randolph Hearst, became a newspaper mogul and creator of Hearst Castle, in San Simeon, Calif.

Troon, the club’s new management company and the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing, is excited about the 90th anniversary. Troon’s management team will collaborate with the club’s new general manager, John Vest, in the planning of the celebratory events. No stranger to Castlewood, Vest was head golf professional from 1997-2005.

“Troon has a great portfolio of clubs and a wealth of experience, which will benefit us at Castlewood,” said Vest. “We are already seeing those positive Troon touches that people appreciate.”
