Wilmington, NC – May 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Memorial Day weekend ushers in the signs of summer to Wilmington, North Carolina’s historic river district and the island beaches of Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach. Beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day, the lifeguard stands and ocean rescue programs are fully staffed with USLA-certified lifeguards and beach patrols at all three beaches. From the river to the sea, summer concert series kick off the season. At Carolina Beach, you’ll find amusement rides at the newly renovated Boardwalk, as well as weekly gazebo concerts and fireworks by the sea, and free outdoor movies by the lake. In Kure Beach, fish off the pier or relax by the sea at Oceanfront Park. At Wrightsville Beach, take a nature or scenic cruise or check out the Wrightsville Beach Museum’s Waterman Hall of Fame. Feed exotic birds at N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher’s new Lorikeet Landing. In Wilmington, see Airlie Gardens’ enchanting Butterfly House. Interested in all things Hollywood East? Take a weekend walking tour (Sat./Sun.) of EUE/Screen Gems Studios with sets from CBS’ hit summer series “Under the Dome” and ABC’s “Secrets & Lies.” And speaking of tours, there are many ways to explore Wilmington’s #1 Best American Riverfront (according to USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice) with history, ghost and culinary tours, a Hollywood location walk and river cruises. And that’s not all. On Monday, there’s a Memorial Day ceremony aboard the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. In fact, there’s so much to see and do, it’s good that you’ll have a long weekend!
