J Advantage Defeats Stablemate Saratoga Giro
to
Win $50,000 George Barker Stakes

2019 / Newsmaker Alert / P J Advantage won the 35th renewal
of the $50,000 George W. Barker Stakes at Finger
Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) on Monday, June 3. The 4-year-old
gelding took the six furlong dash for New York-breds 3-years-old and upward
in a final time of 1:10.10.
The $171,845 earner owned
and trained by Paul Barrow rallied up the rail to defeat stablemate Saratoga
Giro by a margin of one length (view
video replay). The bay gelding scored the upset win at post time odds
of 16-1. He was guided to the triumph by jockey Daniel Vergara.

J Advantage recorded his ninth win in his sixteenth career start. The
talented young competitor also registered his first stakes victory. He
finished second in the Ontario County stakes at FLGR in his prior stakes
appearance on June 25, 2018.
The Paul Barrow-trained exacta
paid a total of $126.50 for a two dollar wager. P J Advantage was the longest
shot in the race and paid $34.20, $12.80 and $9.40. Saratoga Giro held
the second place position after pressing a fast early pace and returned
$6.80 and $6.30. Aveenu Malcainu was third and paid $5.30.
The next stakes event at
FLGR is scheduled for Monday, June 17. The $50,000 Niagara
Stakes for 3-year-old New York-bred fillies will be contested at a
distance of six furlongs.
