Kid-Friendly Aerial Trekking Course and Open-Air Bus Tours Among New Adventures at Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite
|
Fish Camp, CA – June 2019 / Newsmaker Alert / The award-winning Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite continues to add to its family-friendly appeal with new adventures that cater to explorers of all ages. Among the new experiences awaiting families at the property this summer are a pint-sized aerial trekking course just for kids and expanded Yosemite Valley tour options in one-of-a-kind open-air buses.

“It’s an exciting summer for us at Tenaya Lodge,” Tenaya General Manger Paul Ratchford said. “Not only are we opening 50 two-bedroom Explorer Cabins in June, but we also continue to introduce new activities and amenities that connect guests with our iconic location in a way that is both highly personal and thrilling. These special, curated experiences are what make Tenaya Lodge a highly sought after getaway for anyone visiting the Yosemite region.”

One of Tenaya’s newest offerings is the Kids Adventure Center, an aerial trekking course for young guests between 30-100 pounds. The course combines a series of kid-friendly challenges including bridges, swinging logs and rope activities all set approximately five feet above the ground with landing platforms between elements. Children are suited up in a helmet and harness and guided along the course by an experienced instructor during hour-long sessions. The course can accommodate various degrees of difficulty, keeping progression in mind.

“Kids can witness climbers take on the world-famous cliffs of Yosemite Valley and then come back to the resort for their own outdoor challenge,” said Ratchford. “The Kids Adventure Center is a fun play activity that perfectly complements our other offerings including the 18-foot climbing wall and archery. It also marks the first step in the resort’s larger plan to build a zipline course for adults that traverses throughout the property.”

First offered in summer 2018, Tenaya’s open-air Yosemite Tours have become another popular activity for guests. To accommodate increased demand this summer, the resort has expanded its fleet of luxury roll-top Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans as well as its menu of guided tour options. Visitors can now choose between full and half-day tours to Yosemite Valley, as well as sunset and stargazing tours to Glacier Point. The tours allow guests to discover the epic beauty of Yosemite National Park without having to navigate busy roads or search for parking in the park. The 19-person vans feature panoramic retractable roofs for unique access to the fresh mountain air and stunning views. Tours depart from the resort with a local guide and stop at scenic landmarks along the way.

“No other tour operators in the area offer an open-air experience like this,” said Ratchford. “Families can focus on taking in the amazing sites while being introduced to the ecology, history and orientation of the park. They make visiting the national park in a meaningful way especially easy for those traveling in larger family groups or multiple generations and are a perfect balance of informative and fun. Plus, the retractable roof makes the experience just incredible.”

Tenaya’s family-friendly summer fun doesn’t stop there. The property’s teen-focused game room recently received a makeover and now resembles a fun lounge with comfy couches, large screen TVs, game consoles, air hockey, foosball and more. Kids and parents can also participate in weekly Family Watercolor Classes, which are led by a local naturalist who provides step-by-step instruction as guests create their own Yosemite landscape keepsake. And, when its time to “hit the hay,” families can participate in Good Night Yoga. These fun yoga sessions start with a “Good Night Yoga” bedtime story followed by relaxation exercises to soothe tired muscles and relax the mind after a day of stimulating adventure. The session is capped off with milk and cookies to ensure sweet dreams for all.

Families planning a stay from August 1 and beyond, can be among the first to stay in one of Tenaya’s new Explorer Cabins. This unique “cabineering” experience combines the refined comforts of a modern cabin, personalized service and the perks of a full-service resort — all in a pristine mountain setting. The 50 stand-alone, two-bedroom Explorer Cabins are nestled within a forest of sugar pines and incense cedars and surrounded by nature trails. Families enjoy spacious, relaxed and well-appointed accommodations — some with bunkbeds in the second bedroom — that are intimately connected to the adventure and captivating natural beauty of the Yosemite-Sierra region.
