August 2023, the Delaware Department
of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) announced the
selection of Troon to manage the two state-owned properties. The agreement
with DNREC and the State of Delaware expires at the end of 2038 and may
be extended for an additional 10 years. The contract includes management
of operations for the golf courses, pro shops, conference facilities, banquet
rooms, restaurants and bars. Both clubs will be part of the industry-leading
Troon Rewards and Troon Card programs.
“We are thrilled about this new partnership with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and we’re very much looking forward to the future of Deerfield Golf Club and Garrisons Lake Golf Club,” said Troon Vice President of Operations Justin Smith. “The transition for members, guests, and associates has been seamless and we look forward to providing exceptional experiences for all guests and members for years to come.” Deerfield Golf Club features an 18-hole William Gordon-designed golf course that opened for play in 1955. The 6,323-yard, par 70 course borders White Clay Creek State Park and has dramatic elevation changes. The facility features a driving range, a large practice green, a teaching academy and two heated pickleball courts. Deerfield’s stately clubhouse includes a Pub & Grille with indoor/outdoor dining options and a golf shop, while the event center is a popular choice for weddings and parties with capacity for up to 600 guests. Delaware native and golf industry veteran, Mary Leneweaver was recently named Deerfield Golf Club’s new general manager, bringing a wealth of knowledge in golf operations as well as food and beverage and event management. Leneweaver has seven-plus years of experience working at Troon-managed facilities across the state, including roles at Delcastle, Rock Manor and Ed Oliver golf courses. Garrisons Lake Golf Club includes an 18-hole, 7,000-yard par-72 course with tree-lined fairways set on 160-acres. The course originally opened as a 9-hole private club in 1962, before a second nine was added in 1963. Improvements are currently underway at Garrisons Lake on a new cart barn and a 4,300-square-foot clubhouse. The clubhouse will feature a pro shop, restrooms, pub and grill, and indoor/outdoor dining. Steve Farrell remains as Garrisons Lake’s general manager, a position he has held since 2020, and will continue to provide outstanding customer service to guests. Collectively Troon, and its operating brands Troon Golf, Troon Privé and Indigo Sports, now manage 11 facilities in Delaware. Troon-affiliated golf clubs in Delaware include:
