Los
Angeles, CA – September 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Barefoot
Yacht Charters, in cooperation with the American
Sailing Association (ASA), will give away a weeklong charter cruise
for four people in the Caribbean. The purpose of the giveaway, which is
valued at $3,500, is to support the mission of Hands
Across the Sea, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising literacy
levels of children in the Caribbean. The runner-up sweepstakes entrant
will win a seven-night vacation at Palm Island Resort in the Grenadines,
courtesy of Elite Island Resorts. Those interested in winning the private
yacht charter, which will cruise St. Vincent and the Grenadines, or Grenadines
resort stay can enter the sweepstakes any day in September 2014 by watching
a one-minute video about Hands Across the Sea at www.asa.com/hands-across-the-sea.php
on the ASA’s Web site. Entrants will be encouraged to make a tax-deductible
charitable donation in order to enter to win these fantastic destination
prizes.
“Despite
the West Indies being home to many exotic tourist destinations, local economies
typically lack the resources to adequately support education,” said Charlie
Nobles, executive director of the ASA. “The Caribbean is a gift to sailors
and the sailing industry, so we are proud to partner with Barefoot Yacht
Charters and Elite Island Resorts to support Hands Across the Sea’s goal
of improving literacy levels in the Caribbean, where economic conditions
make children’s books virtually unaffordable for both families and schools.”
Established
seven years ago by lifelong sailors and husband and wife team, Tom and
Harriet Linskey, Hands Across the Sea has grown into the most effective
organization of its kind operating in the Eastern Caribbean. The organization
works directly with school principals, community leaders, and U.S. Peace
Corps volunteers to deliver brand new, high quality books to Caribbean
schools. It purchases books from education publishers Scholastic, Penguin
and Dorling Kindersley, and Caribbean imprints such as Macmillan Caribbean
and Editorial Campana Books.
“We
are extremely appreciative of our partnerships with the American Sailing
Association, Barefoot Yacht Charters and Elite Island Resorts, all of whom
are helping us to increase the visibility of our mission,” said Tom and
Harriet Linskey. “We’re also grateful for the opportunity to raise significant
funds that will have a lasting and positive impact on the economic futures
of Caribbean children.”
The
winners of the Barefoot Yacht charter and Palm
Island Resort stay will be drawn in early October 2014. Airfare is
not included.
