Southland Casino Racing Donates $3,475 to the Jackson-Wonder Elementary School

| West Memphis, AR – August 2021 / Newsmaker Alert / On Thursday, August 26, Southland Casino Racing, owned and operated by Delaware North presented the Jackson-Wonder Elementary School in West Memphis, Ark. with a check for $3,475. Southland Casino is Jackson-Wonder’s partner in the West Memphis, Ark. Partners in Education program.

Partners in Education (PIE) is a nationwide organization that is designed to partner individual schools with local businesses in their community to assist the schools with issues they may have throughout the school year above and beyond their normal operations.

The West Memphis school district is a longtime participant in the PIE program and several businesses in West Memphis partner up with individual schools. Normally, schools located in lower income areas are targeted first in order to make sure they have a business partner to assist them, however, West Memphis has a business partner for each of the schools in the West Memphis school district.

Jackson-Wonder School Principal, Leman Brown stated, “This Southland Casino contribution will be used to expand learning activities in literacy, mathematics, and science by enabling the school to purchase additional manipulatives, supplies, literature, and audiovisuals that will aide in our school creating more inclusive environments for our scholars.”

The donated funds were raised through Southland’s We CARE program. We CARE is an employee-driven charitable program that was established in January 2016 by the dedicated associates of Southland Casino Racing. The We CARE program supports local communities through payroll deductions and donations. Associates have the opportunity to donate $5 a week to wear jeans on Friday for their contributions. Through this program, Southland has donated to organizations such as the Jackson-Wonder Elementary School, the Children’s Advocacy Center of AR, Crittenden County Boys & Girls Club, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Make- A-Wish Foundation, West Memphis Police Foundation and many more. Since launching the program, associates have donated more than $182,696 to the surrounding communities.
