|
Long Island, NY – November 2024 / Newsmaker Alert: Discover Long Island (DLI), the region’s only accredited destination marketing organization, has launched its latest campaign, “#IYKYK” designed to make Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) the gateway-of-choice for incoming travelers from Florida this holiday season. With newly expanded direct flights from cities including West Palm Beach, Sarasota, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Vero Beach, and Ft. This campaign positions ISP as a premier entry point to Long Island’s iconic fall and winter offerings with a digital marketing campaign that directs to a customized website: DiscoverLongIsland.com/IYKYK featuring information on flight options as well as charming downtowns, festive events, award-winning wine country, local shopping, dining, and more.

“Discover Long Island is thrilled to launch this new and creative #IYKYK campaign that educates visiting friends and relatives from Florida about the many new opportunities available to fly directly and affordably into Long Island MacArthur Airport this holiday season,” said Discover Long Island President & CEO, Kristen Reynolds. “While Long Islanders love the new flight connections to Florida, it’s equally important to fill the planes coming into Long Island and this new campaign tugs at the heartstrings of former Long Island residents who are missing home while showcasing the year-round beauty and magic of our region to prospective new visitors.”

“Long Island offers an incredible variety of experiences and MacArthur Airport’s new routes make it easier than ever for visitors to discover all we have to offer,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter. “Strong ridership on incoming flights is absolutely essential to sustaining and expanding our air service, ultimately boosting our local economy. The expansion of air service at ISP, combined with the strong support of our community, creates an exceptional opportunity to showcase Long Island as a premier destination, while providing convenient travel options for residents, businesses, and visitors.”

The campaign utilizes the trending hashtag #IYKYK (If You Know You Know) to speak directly to Long Islanders now living in Florida by highlighting Long Island’s distinctive experiences, iconic landmarks, traditions, and sayings such as the Big Duck, “The End” and BECSPK (bacon, egg, cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup.” #IYKYK captures the essence of Long Island’s charm in a familiar sense to those who understand the messages, encouraging them to book a direct flight from Florida to Long Island and also creates the desire for those not familiar with the local terms to be “in the know” and to learn more about Long Island.

Key campaign elements include:

  • Targeted Digital Advertising: The campaign utilizes geotargeted Google Search and display ads, optimized for mobile, to reach Florida travelers actively seeking holiday destinations. Display ads on the popular travel app Hopper, combined with remarketing powered by Google AI, will engage and re-engage potential visitors.
  • Social Media Push: Using Facebook and Instagram, Discover Long Island will leverage video and carousel ads that highlight family, luxury, and local experiences to attract those considering a quick holiday getaway.
  • Customized Website: The call-to-action for all marketing efforts is DiscoverLongIsland.com/IYKYK featuring inspiration, information, and direct links to hotels, wineries, attractions, and to FlyMacArthur.com (ISP) for flight/airline options.
With support from partners such as Google, Hopper, and Adara, the comprehensive “#IYKYK” campaign will track engagement and maximize search-to-book ratios to ensure effective outreach.
