The organization itself hosts only ten national tournaments, open exclusively to qualifying members. Estero Country Club PGA Head Professional, “Our Club was honored to be
selected to host the Ed Tutwiler Four-Ball, as it honors one of the most
underrated amateur golfers this game has ever seen. Tutwiler competed on
several Walker Cup teams and qualified for the Masters’ three times. He
also won 11 West Virginia State Amateurs.”
![]() In late April, Estero Country Club hosted the 2023 SOS Ed Tutwiler Four-Ball competition, where teams of two competed in a better ball of partners’ format. There were 76 players in the field playing 54 holes in the three-day event. Participants played from tees according to their age group, Senior (55-64), Legend (65-69), and Super Senior (70+). The field included some well know senior amateur players and professional athletes including John Armstrong who won the Golfweek U.S. Super-Senior National Championship in 2017; Don Edwards, the All-Star goaltender for the Sabres, who spent 13 years in the National Hockey League; Jim Starnes who won the 2016 Senior Dixie Amateur Championship. Society of Seniors members must meet the following requirements: He must be sponsored by an existing member, be an amateur at least 55 years of age, have a proven record in USGA, Professional, National, International or State golf tournaments with point performances based on previous tournament finishes.
