The
King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort (1935)
St.
Simons Island, Georgia
The
King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort on St. Simons Island has been a hidden
gem off the Georgia coast since 1935, offering couples timeless Southern
hospitality, elegance, and island ambiance for nearly a century. The quiet
natural beauty, serenity, stately oak trees and island atmosphere brings
guests back to create a lifetime of memories, that often begin with a proposal.
At The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort, an expert concierge team
will work with guests to craft a memorable proposal. An original hidden
garden courtyard dating to the 1930s is one of The King and Prince’s most
secluded, romantic spots. Picturesque lampposts and tall arched windows
set the scene, with seasonal flowers and a table for two awaiting the secret
rendezvous. Inside the resort, the hallway lined with windows leading to
the Solarium exudes charm and offers serene ambiance. Outside, the oceanfront
lawn is undoubtedly one of the most romantic spots at the resort, with
its sweeping beachfront views. Whether at sunrise or sunset, the lawn offers
a magical and timeless location to “pop the question,” with the beauty
of the ocean as a backdrop. Another ideal place to propose is the resort’s
beautiful beach. Stretching the length of the resort, this beach offers
some of the most tranquil sunset opportunities, and the perfect atmosphere
to ask for a partner’s hand in marriage. A candlelit dinner experience
can be arranged on the beach or on one of the beachfront patios at The
King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort. The resort has a storied history
as a place for love and romance. For many, it is a place full of generational
connections—where grandparents or parents once honeymooned, creating a
legacy of love for couples today. Its timeless elegance, oceanfront charm,
and rich history make it an enduring romantic destination. The King and
Prince Beach and Golf Resort was inducted into Historic Hotels of America
in 1996 and dates to 1935.
Williamsburg
Inn (1937)
Williamsburg,
Virginia
Williamsburg
Inn is the crown jewel of the Colonial Williamsburg Resorts, located adjacent
to the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area, which is recognized as one
of the most complete community restorations in the world. Built in 1937
by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., the Colonial Revival-style inn features beautiful
arches and columns that highlight the best of Neoclassical-style design
elements, and renovations brought a refreshed vibrancy to the elegant,
English Regency-style interiors. The inn immerses couples in its timeless,
elegant atmosphere—perfect for unforgettable romantic getaways, engagements,
honeymoons, and wedding anniversaries. Whether planning a surprise engagement
on the inn’s picturesque grounds, or celebrating a landmark anniversary,
the Williamsburg Inn can provide a storybook setting that captures the
essence of a historic romance. Favorite locations for proposals and engagement
photos include the Social Terrace, reflecting pool, the gardens in the
Historic Area, and the Queen’s Terrace, with its wedding pergola. For a
romantic meal, couples can dine in the inn’s refined Rockefeller Room or
indulge in the inn’s Afternoon Tea experience, or venture out to take advantage
of the Historic Area’s traditional dining experiences. Williamsburg Inn
was inducted into Historic Hotels of America in 1994 and dates to 1937.
Rancho
Bernardo Inn (1963)
San
Diego, California
For
a romantic proposal or wedding in San Diego, California, guests can stay
at Rancho Bernardo Inn and enjoy the best of Wine Country dining, spa treatments,
and customized planning services, along with lush green landscaping and
Mediterranean-style architecture. For a proposal, the inn’s staff recommends
dining at AVANT, the inn’s signature restaurant, which features both indoor
and outdoor dining. The outdoor patio has a cozy fireplace and sweeping
views of the golf course. For a charming outdoor setting to “pop the question,”
there are 19 gorgeous fountains to be discovered throughout the gardens
and alcoves of Rancho Bernardo Inn. Many of the fountains have traditions
associated with them. For instance, couples deeply in love may wish to
toss a rose petal into the Dreams of Eternity fountain. The inn’s grandest
fountain is the gorgeous La Fontana di Santiago. Imported from Vicenza,
Italy, it serves as the centerpiece for the inn’s celebrated Santiago Courtyard.
The concierge can work to create the perfect custom setting for a proposal,
including bringing in flowers, stages, picnics, Champagne, and musicians.
Among the offerings are candlelit dinners at one of the inn’s restaurants,
and an unforgettable romantic, candlelit picnic. The inn is ready to help
guests celebrate this special occasion with a bottle of bubbly, by unveiling
a fun sign announcing, “They said ‘Yes!’” or showering the couple with
rose petals. Couples who marry at Rancho Bernardo Inn return for romantic
weekends to celebrate milestones and romantic occasions, such as Valentine’s
Day, anniversaries, and babymoons. Some even bring their children back
to capture photos in the special places where they celebrated their love
story. A couple recently got married in the Santiago Courtyard, 40 years
after their parents said “I do” in the same location. Rancho Bernardo Inn
was inducted into Historic Hotels of America in 2021 and dates to 1963.
