40-year milestone could not have been achieved without relentless perseverance,
steadfast positivity, and the ability to adapt quickly to clients’ changing
needs,” said company founder, Marge
Lennon. “This long journey began before computers, cell phones, social
media, and 24/7 news cycles. We’ve navigated inconceivable changes in technology
and how people receive information, but our mission has never wavered:
to help our clients tell their stories in powerful and meaningful ways.”
“I believe our enduring customer relationships have played a major role in contributing to our longevity,” added Lennon – who shares she has had some of the same clients for over 30 years. “As a publicist, it was important for me to encourage clients to share their dreams, then transform those dreams into successful messaging. A dash of curiosity combined with solid writing skills was an essential ingredient to uncover unique stories.” With a passion for storytelling and a legacy of success, Lennon Communications has enabled clients to connect, communicate, and grow in a constantly-evolving world. Over the past four decades, the company has earned a reputation for excellence by staying ahead of industry trends, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to results-driven strategies. Clients include many of the most significant names in the timeshare, hospitality, home furnishings, real estate, property management, interior design, restaurant, and construction industries. In reflecting on the longevity of her business, Lennon believes her upbringing and early years as the grand-daughter, daughter and wife of senior military officers provided a keen ability to adapt to countless changing environments and situations. Before marriage, she was a writer in Washington, D.C. for a U.S. Senator. In 1978, the “Army Brat” relocated to Fort Myers, Florida to be near family and begin a new life and career. Lennon had no work experience during 15 years of marriage. Suddenly, she was a single parent with two teenaged boys. While timesharing was still in its infancy, Marge became the public relations chief for Captran Resorts and the Mariner Group from 1978 to 1985, working closely with national media to help publicize and position the new timeshare product to travel and real estate editors from around the world. At that time Lennon led the creative efforts for marketing newsletters, brochures, and sales presentations, quickly replicated by other companies. At the age of 45, she had a sudden impulse to start her own business, aided by an initial monthly retainer from The Mariner Group. “I never even considered what if it doesn’t work,” said Marge, “bravely forging ahead with no business plan, no MBA or any other degree. In retrospect, I believe a heavy dose of positivity and a passion for telling other people’s stories had an impact on my longevity. One of the greatest job benefits was being able to visit hundreds of beautiful resorts I wrote about, all located in popular vacation destinations, Maui being a favorite.” Since beginning her career, Marge Lennon’s by-lined articles and press releases have been published in multiple industry trade publications, daily papers and social media. She penned one of the first national stories on timesharing, published in the Saturday Evening Post and co-authored the first major book on the timeshare industry with Captran Resorts founder Keith Trowbridge. Lennon Communications soon became respected for their creation of sales and marketing materials, magazine features, and owner-directed newsletters, a company specialty. Her “hands-on” experience with pioneer timeshare developers provided the knowledge that made her uniquely qualified to offer these same services for Silverleaf Resorts, Shell Vacations, Bluegreen Vacations, Island One Resorts, Diamond Resorts, Welk Resorts and Dial an Exchange, serving them a decade or longer. These companies have now been acquired by publicly-branded hospitality giants. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 5% of businesses survive longer than 30 years. Very few endure to celebrate 40. Currently a solo practitioner and a “seasoned” octogenarian, Marge Lennon thanks all the loyal clients and former staff members who contributed to her long and fascinating business journey. Not yet ready to retire, she continues creating transformative communications strategies for several longtime clients and looks forward to helping the next generation of business leaders. Contact:
