Alexandria, VA – June
2025 / NewsmakerAlert: Following
a year marked by historic wildfires, catastrophic flooding and hurricanes,
our nation witnessed first-hand the bravery and commitment of the many
first responders who run toward danger when communities need to evacuate
or flee.
To recognize these extraordinary efforts, the NACS Foundation announces its inaugural First Responder of the Year Award. This national honor will spotlight standout first responders who went above and beyond in a time of critical need for communities across the United States. Nominations
are now open to submit 9-1-1 dispatchers, nurses, doctors, firefighters,
police officers, EMTs, American Red Cross volunteers and other first responders
who deserve recognition. The winner will be honored during the annual 24/7
Day celebration on July 24, 2025.
![]() All nominators need to do is fill out a brief form to share the story of a first responder who they believe has gone above and beyond. The form is available here and nominations are open until July 7, 2025. “The convenience industry has a front-row seat to the first responder community’s work, often operating the only stores and gas stations open during times of disaster or critical need,” said Kevin O’Connell, executive director of the NACS Foundation. “Realizing that so much of what these heroes do is out of public view, we wanted to recognize their compassion and dedication to keeping us safe.” The award builds upon the NACS Foundation’s 24/7 Day initiative, which unites the convenience store industry by bringing together the convenience industry to thank first responders each July 24. The initiative is part of the non-profit organization’s Response Relief pillar, which recognizes the unique relationship between convenience stores and their communities. To
