Lebanon,
KY – May 2013 / Hospitality 1ST / Create your own live action in Lebanon,
Ky., on the new Turtle Trek and follow in the footsteps of Ernie Brown,
Jr., better known as Turtleman, the star of Animal Planet’s wildly popular
series, “Call of the Wildman.”
|
Known
for his lusty “Live Action!” catchphrase and distinctive “Indian yell”
– something he attributes to his Shawnee and Cherokee heritage – Brown
hails from this small central Kentucky town that is also famous as the
home of Maker’s Mark.
Fans
can visit Lebanon
sites seen in episodes of “Call of the Wildman” and Lebanon landmarks
famous for their Turtleman connections. Stop in the Marion County Heritage
Center, home of the world’s only Turtleman exhibit, to see traps made and
used by Brown, colorful wood carvings, fan letters and fan-made gifts,
an autographed banjo and more. Browse Historic Penn’s Store, a 19th century
country store in nearby Gravel Switch, seen in the episode, “Fort Rattlesnake.”
Among
the six stops on the Turtle Trek is the new WhiteMoon Winery, featured
in the “Tee’d Off Turtles” episode, where visitors can enjoy a tasting
of seven Kentucky Proud wines ranging from dry to sweet. (The barrels Turtleman
used to catch the critter here are on display at the Marion County Heritage
Center). At the Stillhouse Restaurant and art gallery, dig into a slice
of Turtleman Cheesecake after an entree from the restaurant’s Maker’s Mark
Bourbon Fried Grill.
Peek
into the Sandusky Mule Barn, featured in the episode, “Groundhog Day,”
where Turtleman and his team saved the mules. And pop into the Lebanon
Tourist & Convention Commission to purchase your very own “Lebanon,
KY – Home of Turtleman” T-shirt.
Lebanon’s
Turtle Trek debuts as fans of the show will be tuning into Season Two of
“Call of the Wildman,” premiering at 9 p.m. on Sun., June 2. The hit series
has 20 brand-new episodes featuring the “bare-handed, backwoods animal-trapping”
skills of Turtleman, who, along with the banjo-toting Neal James and his
canine companion, Lolly, will take on coyotes, llamas, venomous snakes,
pigeons, skunks, raccoons – even bulls.
