San Antonio, TX – January 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Whataburger’s Monterey Melt burger, which was introduced earlier this year for a limited time, returns to the menu as an All-Time Favorite, joining a select group of the company’s most famous menu items.

The Monterey Melt was extremely popular during its short run on the Whataburger menu in 2013. Based on overwhelming customer response, Whataburger decided to bring it back full-time as one of the All-Time Favorites. The Monterey Melt includes two 100 percent beef patties topped with Monterey Jack and American cheese, grilled onions and peppers, and Whataburger’s Jalapeño Ranch sauce.

“Our All-Time Favorites menu is based on customer feedback. We knew, after seeing our customers’ love for the Monterey Melt, we had to find a way to put it on the menu full-time,” said Whataburger Vice President of Marketing and Innovation Rich Scheffler. “The Monterey Melt has the perfect combination of melted cheese, grilled onions, grilled poblanos and red bell peppers, and our Jalapeño Ranch sauce giving it the bold flavor our customers crave.”

The Monterey Melt is available as a meal or a la carte, and also can be ordered as a junior version on a smaller bun.

“The ingredients in the Monterey Melt were carefully selected to work together to create an intense, memorable set of flavors. We also like giving customers the option to add their favorite additions like avocado, bacon or jalapeños,” said Scheffler.

About Whataburger
Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: “What a burger!” Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, all-American beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 750 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
